I blog about a WHOLE LOT of stuff :)

5 husky snow adventures today – my legs are sore! (plus Angelus got some time at Squaw Village today.)

2 movies watched – Leap Year and All About Steve (love Sandra no matter what!) Liked them both. Not classics, and pretty sure hated by reviewers, but they were cute movies that made me smile and/or giggle. And that’s what I needed.

And only 3 chores done today!

It snowed all day long today. And the temp has been dropping. It’s currently 11 degrees out. I just took Storm out for a potty break. Holy moley! 11 is dang cold….he sure is lucky he is so cute :)

So all in all, a successful vacation day.

I lost the ball to my belly ring while in Florida last month. Didn’t worry about it too much since I had much bigger stuff to think about then (and really still do now but whatever.)

Since then, I’ve pulled/snagged it numerous times on sweaters and it frackin’ hurt (even bleeding once – ouch.) And I kept meaning to go find a new ball for it. But now it’s almost the end of December and I still have not done it. And today, after my shower, the ring came out again. So I left it out.

It’s weird…I’ve had it in for about 15-16 years. But I think I don’t care anymore. The only thing that scares me is does this means I’m getting/feeling old? It’s been a rough year, and a rougher few months, so better to focus on worrying about silly things like this I suppose…

Angelus says it should snow like this every day!!

RAWR!!!!

We just got back from our 1.5 hour snow trek! You could tell our street was plowed earlier but more snow had accumulated. Our easement road and driveway? Well…they did plow during the night but we got a ton more between then and now. Good thing the huskies (or their mom!) don’t mind snow. Even naked-bellied Storm! Although the wind did eventually make him go “OK, time for me to go back.” So Angelus and I dropped Stormy off at home and went back out into the elements. Angelus was pretty darn excited by it :)

Funny how yesterday was clear on our morning walk and we saw no one. But in this morning’s blizzard we saw (and played with!!) 2 Scottish terriers, Meila the giant St Bernard (who we met last winter as a little puppy!) and Travis the spaz brown dog who Angelus LOVED snow wrestling with! :)

The wind was howling (Storm says no *I* howl!) and I got a snowblast facial. Who needs that top layer of skin? People pay good money for that treatment :) Although the giant snow chunks that kept falling off trees from the wind and then whipping all the snow around was a bit sketchy so we did not go into the forest on this trek.

Here’s to more snow dumping today! The local Tahoe weather guru, who has been more accurate than weather.com or any local news weather, says more snow after a brief morning break (currently still snowing though – I wonder if the break was that little bit it didn’t snow on our walk?) and our temps falling due to the very cold front headed our way. Supposedly going below 0 Thursday night. Good times. Modern inventions such as heat and electricity are beyond awesome. :)

They got 32″ of fresh snow last night up on ridge not far from my house. 10-16″ down at lake level!! Wheeeee!!! The Sierras are enjoying an excellent La Nina year. We are crossing fingers and paws it stays strong throughout the entire season.

Planning on going back out in a little while. The 24 degrees it is now sounds balmy and enjoyable compared to the single digits forecast for tonight and tomorrow. And walking through snow in big, heavy snowboots is some crazy good leg exercise! Lazy pants here needs that after a week of Christmas eating :)

Truly a winter (and husky) wonderland here :)

In his element :)

Some early Christmas presents for me included:

and

and

I don’t even really eat pancakes, but you know I have to try these out this week :) Hysterically, I didn’t ask for these things but 2 different people bought me some form of Williams Sonoma Star Wars cookery. Either they know I love Star Wars or think I should bake more? :) And stupidly I left my Darth Vader apron back at home (that I received from a different friend for a different holiday!)

And I will give the old college try to decorating some Star Wars cookies. I could not find the same colors in frosting anywhere so I was thinking baby pink Star Wars all around – yes? That works right? ;)

OH! I just remembered I also left my Star Wars cookbook back at home. I wanted to make the Chewbacca cookies!!! The internetz must be able to help me that with me here on Hoth without the recipe book…

But why did no one think to buy me the Williams Sonoma CUPCAKE SET???? Holy hell cupcake paper cups with Chewbacca on them!!!!!! Looks like I will play Santa to me for that :)

Just heard this version recently. Awesome. Totally awesome.

Dino is still my all-time favorite because he is Dean Martin and his voice is pure velvet…

But Ella’s version is definitely a close #2.

Also, to the full and complete idiots who consider this a date rape song – suck it. This song is frackin’ awesome. Listen to the lyrics instead of just hearing them.

I’m listening to this while sitting by my Christmas tree, it’s snowing (and cold!) outside and my huskies are relaxing. A great night.

I don’t have a truly informed opinion on DADT. I am not in the military and have never been, so it’s not my place to simply give my opinion other than when prefaced with “IMO” and not as anything else. Much like I believe a company’s hiring practices should be decided by the company and not the government, the decisions about the military should be decided by those who are serving. Who am I to tell them what to do? And who are you to tell me (as a private company) who to hire? But the fact is, there are laws in place telling me what I can or cannot do about hiring *in a private company* and how I can fire them even when they completely suck and take advantage of my/our generosity.

So for all the fanfare and tweets (good grief people) and news stories about DADT, I only care about your opinion if you are serving in the military, or have served, and have the knowledge to tell me what is good or not.

And when people have to be let go at my company, or when trying to find the right person to fill a position, I will try and use my (our) best judgment for what is best for us. And I don’t really care what you (the Royal You :) ) or the government think. But sadly, we don’t completely have that luxury in this land of the free.

…it’s been a month. Still not any easier.

Still can’t talk about it much though. Maybe it would help, maybe not. I don’t know. Can’t talk to my husband about it (truthfully, don’t actually think he cares) and no other family really. And don’t want to spoil anyone else’s mood. No need for that. Like I said, not sure it would help anyway.

Trying to suck it up though.

Decided I needed some more warm, thick sweaters for Tahoe. But they needed to be run-outside-in-the-snow-with-the-huskies as well as run to Safeway, go to dinner and hang out at home-worthy. Most of my Tahoe stuff is snowboard label and North Face. So I checked a few sites I thought would have comfy but cute sweaters – American Eagle being one of them. Found this one:

I bought it on Cyber Monday so it was 25% off plus free shipping. Just arrived today and tried it on tonight. Holy hell the softest comfiest sweater!! PERFECT for cold Tahoe!!! So I just went to ae.com and they were buy one get the other 50% off and free shipping today. Plus I found a coupon code for 25% my entire order. So I bought the other 2 colors! YAY!

Seriously….softer than most of my cashmere!! And so cheap I won’t care about diving in the snow with the huskies :) Merry comfy Christmas to me!

So I don’t normally participate in the twitter, tumblr or Facebook memes or “retweet/post this message” stuff. But the recent one on Facebook was to post a cartoon picture of something you enjoyed as a child in an “effort” to get the message about childhood abuse out there. I love cartoons. So I did it. I first put up Wonder Woman as my favorite super hero cartoon as a kid. But then this weekend, I changed it to the Humble Bumble (Abominable from Rudolph.) It was a toss-up between him and Yukon Cornelius. And then I thought about Scrooge McDuck too who was a childhood favorite of mine and also my brother. I am actually going to leave Humble Bumble up for December I think though :)

Humble Bumble

Now…I’m pretty sure people know this is a very real problem in the world that does need addressing in a serious manner. And I’m also pretty sure most people know that changing their profile picture on Facebook isn’t really going to change the world or effect this issue in any real way. But so what? Wearing a pink ribbon doesn’t really change breast cancer awareness anymore, or a rainbow sticker to show solidarity with any number of gay-awareness causes, or any of the gazillion different-colored ribbons to promote stuff that we have no idea about anymore because there are so many. But by doing it, if even the 1 person you run across who hasn’t heard or thought about it (you are probably on the moon in this case) does think about it, then you did a decent thing. And hurt nothing or no one in the process.

So I was kinda shocked at seeing the amount of people on twitter and tumblr (and even some on Facebook) who went on tirades about how stupid it was, how it wasn’t going to change anything, was a waste of time and resources, etc. Wow. People…settle the hell down. It takes less than a minute to google/bing/yahoo search your favorite childhood cartoon and change your profile picture. And they are cute. And it’s kind of fun to see what your friends put up. So I don’t think anyone chose to put a cartoon picture up over donating time or money to any cause. In fact, your insults and tirades probably took more time. So just listen to Frankie…relax.

I thought maybe for some people it hit a button. And they had been abused or knew someone who was so the whole thing touched a sore spot. And maybe that’s it. But I would assume any awareness brought to a problem is good awareness. And while you think changing pictures to cartoons is stupid, the story was picked up by a lot of national news agencies that would have otherwise been reporting on how many stitches Obama has in his lip (which IS back in the news today – awesome) or what athlete Kim Kardashian is doing now. So…maybe nothing came of it all. But you don’t know.

And while I think most campaigns produce nothing much beyond their initial punch, sometimes that initial punch gets a person(s) moving. Causes them to act. Certainly not everyone. But some, even a few, is a good thing. Each person is going to have their own hot button issues. The ones they do set aside time for to help with, or donate money to, or both and more. And maybe you didn’t know it was a hot button issue until you thought about it more, and read about it more.

I mean come on – all the “Donate $$ to Haiti” tweets that were going around and around and around for a week or so. Did you really ever think about Haiti before that? Did you donate your $5 and feel like you did something? And did you ever do anything after that 3 minute cycle? Donate your time? Or more money? Probably not. But you know – that $5 might have meant a lot anyway. So do you regret doing it? Was it a bad thing that you did it? Can’t imagine you think so.

Some of the tweets and posts on tumblr were downright mean too. And some of the people who wrote them are the so-called “big names” on twitter/tumblr (which is a rather ridiculous and humorous statement in itself.) If you are on twitter or tumblr, you know the people, you probably follow at least one of them, the ones that love to self promote on Favrd or whatever that site is called where you favorite your own tweets and hope others do too in a some weird attempt to be a big name on a site most people in the world have never heard of. Yeah – they were bashing the cartoons as being stupid and ridiculous. Ummm…ok.

Also – it’s Christmas. And while I know this whole cartoon Facebook hubabub had nothing to do with Christmas, it was done around Christmas-time plus it had to with kids who should love Christmas and be extra happy at Christmas-time. That is something I am a firm believer in. *I* love Christmas. And even after a rough year, I am determined to still love Christmas. So lock away your personal Grinch for a few weeks and partake of the happy spirit known as “holiday cheer”. Smile.

And if this horrible waste of time perpetrated by obvious pure evil beings caused even 1 person to say “Oh yeah, I want to donate some money or time to fighting such and such cause as my good deed during this holiday season.” then yay.

And if you don’t want to do it, OK. No big deal either. But what does it gain to bash the people that do?

In fact, here you go – why don’t you go and put this picture up for the rest of the year…

In honor of the marshmallow world that I left this morning..

I love these guys. There really never will be anyone as cool. I seriously wish I could time machine it back to see them live. Plus they actually had voices and could sing live….
