Good for them that they don’t treat the models like meat and look for a) well-behaved girls and b) support them creating something to do for a living rather than only standing around looking pretty. Because there is always someone else prettier…
And while I have no problem with Victoria’s Secret, their models and actually like some of their lines, I have been straining to find the “curvier” ones…
“Victoria’s Secret has bucked another trend: Using bony, size-zero models. “The women are curvy and beautiful and healthy, and there’s a movement [in the fashion world] to exude that,” says Ivan Bart, senior vice president and managing director of IMG Models Worldwide, which reps or has represented many of the brand’s models. Indeed, the Victoria’s Secret “Angels” made a surprise appearance at the Paris and Milan winter fashion shows, as designers like Miuccia Prada and Marc Jacobs paid tribute to their “curvier” bodies.”
I get that they aren’t the size 00 runway models used in most couture shows but I think using the term curvy isn’t actually too factual. Yes – they have some busts (helped by some padding or boob jobs) and hips (when compared to the 15-yr olds typically used in fashion print ads and shows) but come on….it actually made me laugh out loud. And the reason they have to use “curvy” girls is because lingerie and swimsuit models can’t be bony and emaciated – looks gross. Throw a dress on the bones and they look fine and will be hired, but not the unmentionables.
Although at least they didn’t say “more realistic womens’ bodies” or “bodies like most women”. Because then I’d still be laughing…uncontrollably…

you know i quite liked the Dove ad campaign from a while back – the women in that ad were attractive and real sizes. fashion is all about the “idealised” notion of beauty as defined by a very small group of people who have a very big impact on women in general.

I do notice that they have more healthy looking “buff” models than runway girls. Yay?

Oh, I think they look great. But I wouldn’t call them “curvy”. That’s all.

Every guy I know thought those girls were big. Men’s obsession with the stick thin but with a nice butt and boobs figure will never change. They want an anorexic girl but with the boobs and ass. Period. meh.

I found the curvier one! Sticks don’t interest me – never did – but I will say that I saw one of the original VS models during NY fashion week a couple of months ago and she still looks amazing.

Ha – in that picture?!
I’m sure they age well. Most of the supermodels from the 80s still look fantastic IMO. A combo of good genes, great plastic surgeons and loads of cash can do that ;)
